Generator-Transformer Groups – Alicurá Hydraulic Power Plant

Since its construction the four 280 MVA Generator-Transformer Groups of Alicurá Hydro Power Plant were in operation protected by its original protection equipment.
Time aging, the obsolescence of components and the lack of spare parts, made necessary the change of original protection system by new last generation micro processed one.
The project consisted in the preparation of Protection Selectivity Studies of all functions built into the new ABB terminals REG 670 and RET 670.
More than 30 protection functions were studied and adjusted for the Generator, main Power Transformer and also for Auxiliary Services.
The project included the realization of system modeling, Power of Flow and Short Circuit studies needed to be taken as a basis for the definition of the settings.
Generator-Transformer Group – Atucha I Nuclear Power Plant

Since its construction 425 MVA Generator-Transformer Groups of Atucha I Nuclear Power Plant was in operation protected by its original protection equipment.
Time aging, the obsolescence of components and the lack of spare parts, made necessary to replace original protection system with a new generation digital one.
The project consisted in the preparation of Protection Selectivity Studies of all functions built into the new ABB terminals REG 670 and RET 670.
More than 30 protection functions were studied and adjusted for the Generator and also for Main and Unit Power Transformers.
The project included the realization of system modeling, Power of Flow and Short Circuit studies needed to be taken as a basis for the definition of the settings.
Combined Cycle Loma de la Lata – Loma de la Lata Thermal Power Station

The closure of open-cycle of Loma de la Lata Power Plant, for its operation as a cycle combined unit, required the installation of a new steam turbine which takes advantage of the existing gas turbines exhaust gases.
The power of the new steam turbine is handed over to the 500 kV busbar of the station, through a new 235 MVA Power Transformer.
The purpose of this study focused on the definition of the protection settings of new 5TR02 Power Transformer and new 5DL 02 circuit breaker, corresponding to the new 02 bay of Loma de la Lata Thermal Power Plant.
Adjusted protections were all ABB, models RET 670 (5TR02 transformer protection), REB 010 (5DL 02 Breaker Failure Protection) and Combiflex (5DL 02 Pole Discordance).
E.T. Rincón de Los sauces 132 kV – Secco Thermal Power Station

For the purposes of incorporation into the National Interconnected System of new Secco Thermal Power Plant, in Neuquén province, the current 132 kV high voltage line linking Puesto Hernández, Medanito and Señal Picada Substations, was divided between Puesto Hernández and Puesto de Seccionamiento (a node that links Medanito with Señal Picada).
The division of this line allows the connection of the new Substation called Rincón de los Sauces, whose 40 MVA power transformer will allows supplying26,6 MW to Comahue Distribution System, in the North of Neuquén province, provided by Secco Power Plant, equipped with 19 moto generators of 1.4 MW each.
The project consisted in the study and settings calculation of all electrical protections in the new E.T. and in both line ends (Puesto Hernández and Medanito Substations).
Protections included in this study were:
– Siemens 7SA Line distance protection
– ABB REL 511 Line distance protection
– ABB LZ92 Line distance protection
– Siemens 7UT Transformer differential protection
– Siemens 7SJ Overcurrent protection
– Siemens 7VK Synchrocheck relay
– General Electric F650 Overcurrent Protection
Combined Cycle 355 MVA Transformers – Central Puerto Thermal Power Plant
Client: ELECTROINGENIERÍA S.A.
Technical problems and repeated failures in the 768 MW original Power Transformers of Central Puerto Cycle Combined required the replacement of former transformers by new ones.
The project consisted in the elaboration of the protection adjustments of the three new transformers and the adjustment services, and the testing of the same in the work.
